The Indiana Fever and Washington Mystics meet Sunday in WNBA action at the Capital One Arena.
The Indiana Fever hope for a bounce back performance after getting crushed Saturday by the Chicago Sky. The Indiana Fever are averaging 64 points on 36.8 percent shooting and allowing 82 points on 49.2 percent shooting. Candice Dupree is averaging 14 points and eight rebounds while Erica Wheeler is averaging 13 points and four assists. Tiffany Mitchell is the third double-digit scorer and Natalie Achonwa is grabbing six rebounds. The Indiana Fever are shooting 20 percent from beyond the arc and 62.5 percent from the free throw line. The Indiana Fever are allowing 33.3 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32 rebounds per game. The Indiana Fever have lost seven straight road games.
The Washington Mystics scored a combined 181 points in two preseason games and hope that success translates when the games count. The Mystics had a decent year last season before they ran into the Minnesota Lynx in the playoffs, and they hope they can build on that success. Elena Delle Donne, one of the top players in the world, should be more comfortable in her second season in Washington. The Mystics also get a boost by bringing back Monique Currie and adding Devereaux Peters. It also shouldn’t be long until Tayler Hill returns to the court after an ACL injury. The Washington Mystics have the offensive firepower to hang with any team in the league, it’s just a question if this is the group capable of playing balanced ball to make a legit title run.
The Fever are 12-5-2 ATS in their last 19 Sunday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest. The Mystics are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games, 19-9-1 ATS in their last 29 vs. Eastern Conference and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Fever are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Washington, 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings and the under is 11-4 in the last 15 meetings in Washington.
This total seems a bit low when you consider the Fever just got torched defensively yesterday and are now on a quick turnaround with travel. The Washington Mystics are argubaly the most explosive team in the league and showed in the preseason just how good they can be offensively. The Fever also can't shoot any worse than they did Saturday. The play in this game should be the over.
