Lynx vs. Sparks
|Date & Time||Sunday May 20, 2018, 5:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Minnesota Lynx -5.5 -- Over/Under: 157
The Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx meet Sunday in WNBA action at the Target Center.
The Los Angeles Sparks are once again title contenders and may be the only team in the league with two legit MVP candidates in Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike. When those two players are playing at their best, the Sparks are damn near impossible to beat. But while those two get all of the love, players such as Odyssey Sims and Chelsea Gray help put this squad over the top and are more than capable of carrying the team when needed. The addition of Cappie Pondexter also doesn’t hurt, as she brings a scoring punch and championship experience to an already loaded roster and a team that has its eyes on the prize. The Los Angeles Sparks are once again probably the best basketball team in LA. Yes, I said it.
The Minnesota Lynx have become the staple of the WNBA and are once again the team to beat in this league. Winning four titles since 2011, the Lynx have the core returning to make yet another championship run. No matter where you look, the Lynx are simply a stacked basketball team. From Sylvia Fowles, Maya Moore, Rebekkah Brunson, Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus, there’s nothing the Lynx don’t have in terms of talent and experience. There are some questions about just how long these girls will stick around, but as long as that starting five remains intact, the Minnesota Lynx are the best team in the league on paper.
The Sparks are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 vs. Western Conference, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 23-9 ATS in their last 32 games overall. The Sparks are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings. The over is 4-1 in Lynx last 5 home games and the under is 25-8 in Sparks last 33 overall.
You can make a case for either side here and leaving points on the table with the Lynx probably isn't smart. However, the Lynx are a well oiled machine and when they win, they usually win rather comfortable. It's banner night and the crowd should be out in full force. I'll eat the reasonable chalk here with the home team. This is a tough spot for the Sparks to start the season.
