The Phoenix Mercury and Minnesota Lynx meet Thursday in WNBA action at the Target Center.
The Phoenix Mercury look for their first road win of the season to get a game above a .500 record. The Phoenix Mercury are averaging 77 points on 47.6 percent shooting and allowing 80.5 points on 40.6 percent shooting. DeWanna Bonner is averaging 21.5 points and four assists while Brittney Griner is averaging 18 points and seven rebounds. Essence Carson is the third double-digit scorer and Yvonne Turner is dishing seven assists. The Phoenix Mercury are shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. The Phoenix Mercury are allowing 40 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32 rebounds per game. The Phoenix Mercury have lost five of their last seven road games.
The Minnesota Lynx look for their third home win of the season to build on their 3-1 start. The Minnesota Lynx are averaging 77 points on 44.6 percent shooting and allowing 70.8 points on 42.4 percent shooting. Sylvia Fowles is averaging 14.5 points and 10 rebounds while Napheesa Collier is averaging 14.5 points and 1.5 assists. Damiris Dantas is the third double-digit scorer and Odyssey Sims is dishing 5.3 assists. The Minnesota Lynx are shooting 34.2 percent from beyond the arc and 76.6 percent from the free throw line. The Minnesota Lynx are allowing 27.4 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 35.2 rebounds per game. The Minnesota Lynx have split their last six home games.
The Mercury are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games, 8-3 ATS in their last 11 vs. Western Conference and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Lynx are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Western Conference. The Mercury are 5-15-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Minnesota and 2-13-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings. The under is 20-8 in Lynx last 28 overall. The over is 8-3-1 in Mercury last 12 overall.
The Phoenix Mercury aren't the same team on the road as they are at home, and I'm not sure I like this team without Diana Taurasi to kind of keep everybody in line. The Minnesota Lynx have been one of the more impressive teams out of the gate and their one loss came on the road in Seattle, where they had chances to win it in the fourth quarter. And while the Lynx are a different team than past years, there is a physiological edge with them winning nine of the last 10 meetings against the Mercury. This hasn't been the rivalry it's been hyped up to be. I'll side with the Lynx in this near toss-up.
