The Las Vegas Aces and Phoenix Mercury meet Friday in WNBA action at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.
The Las Vegas Aces look for a quick 2-0 start after beating up on the Los Angeles Sparks in their season opener. The Las Vegas Aces are averaging 83 points on 41.9 percent shooting and allowing 70 points on 36.4 percent shooting. A'ja Wilson is averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds while Kayla McBride is averaging 20 points and seven rebounds. Dearica Hamby is the third double-digit scorer and Kelsey Plum is dishing six assists. The Las Vegas Aces are shooting 28.6 percent from beyond the arc and 77.3 percent from the free throw line. The Las Vegas Aces are allowing 38.5 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 45 rebounds per game. The Las Vegas Aces have split their last six road games.
The Phoenix Mercury look for their first win of the season after losing their season opener to the Seattle Storm. The Phoenix Mercury are averaging 68 points on 44.3 percent shooting and allowing 77 points on 41.8 percent shooting. DeWanna Bonner is averaging 31 points and four assists while Brittney Griner is averaging 18 points and eight rebounds. Yvonne Turner is averaging four assists and Essence Carson is dishing two assists. The Phoenix Mercury are shooting 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 100 percent from the free throw line. The Phoenix Mercury are allowing 31.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 29 rebounds per game. The Phoenix Mercury have won their last four home games.
The Aces are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 Friday games, 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Mercury are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. Western Conference, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games and 14-3 ATS in their last 17 Friday games. The Aces are 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings and the under is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings. The under is 3-1-1 in Mercury last 5 overall. The under is 4-1-1 in Aces last 6 overall.
The Phoenix Mercury have always been a completely different team at home than on the road, but they were extremely sloppy in their season opener and Griner didn't look 100 percent engaged. It also doesn't help that Camille Little and Sancho Lyttle are questionable, hurting the depth of this squad. The Las Vegas Aces absolutely had their way with the Sparks, and now they're expected to get Liz Cambage for the first time. The Aces have the potential to dominate this league if their opener was a sign of things to come and now the addition of one of the games best. The Aces are scary good and just really tapping into that potential. I'll take them on the road in this toss-up contest.
