The Line: Team Delle Donne -6 -- Over/Under: 247.5
Team Parker and Team Delle Donne meet Saturday in the WNBA All-Star Game at the Target Center.
Team Parker will be coached by Sandy Brondello of the Phoenix Mercury and has a great combination of size and experience. There are seven players on Team Parker making at least their fourth all-star appearance and eight of the players overall play the forward or center position. The crowd will love Team Parker due to home town player Maya Moore being on the squad, but Candace Parker, Liz Cambage, Tina Charles, Angel McCoughtry and Chiney Ogwumike give this team plenty of threats on the inside and will make them tough to defend. Skylar Diggins-Smith and Chelsea Gray should be able to help space the floor a bit, but Team Parker is going to bring a physical style to the court and has several bodies to throw in the post. Team Parker is going to be tough to defend due its size, depth and experience.
Team Delle Donne will be coached by Dan Hughes of the Seattle Storm and is almost the opposite of the team its playing. Team Delle Donne has five players making its first or second all-star appearance and is led mostly by guard play. This squad has five primary guards in Seimone Augustus, Sue Bird, Kayla McBride, Diana Taurasi and Kristi Toliver, which will space the floor and give this team outside shooting. Down low, Team Delle Donne has some of the top names in the sport in A'ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Brittney Griner and of course, Elena Delle Donne. There’s more versatility to Team Delle Donne and the fact every player on this roster has a teammate from its main team makes this group of players even more intriguing. Team Delle Donne has post play, shooting, experience and youth, making this one of the more exciting rosters in WNBA all-star game history.
If you couldn’t tell from the team write ups, I’m much higher on Team Delle Donne than Team Parker, as there’s more balance between bigs and guards, which is going to make the offense much more free flowing when the sides decide to play defense. You can also make the argument that Team Delle Donne has the more talented bigs despite having fewer options than Team Parker. It’s just a much, much better and more complete roster that should have no trouble winning this game.
So, while laying six points in a meaningless game where defense is optional isn’t ideal, it’s the only option when it comes to betting the side.
