The 2020 NRL season finally returns as two of the remaining undefeated teams in the Brisbane Broncos and the Parramatta Eels are set to do battle.
Prior to the break, the Eels recorded a gruelling 8-2 win over the Canterbury Bulldogs before ambushing the Gold Coast Titans 46-6. The Broncos won their season opener with an impressive road win against the North Queensland Cowboys 28-21 and then accounting for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in round two by a score of 22-18.
Parramatta took a 12-0 lead within the first 10 mins of their contest vs the Titans before heading to the half in the lead 12-6. It took them a little while to get going in the second half with the score still showing 12-6 with 23mins remaining before running wild scoring tries through Evans, Terepo, Sivo and Brown all inside 10mins eventually running away with the contest 46-6. Second phase play was on point for the Eels as they offense managed 20 offloads and 7 line breaks combined with 44 missed tackles from the Titans.
Looking at how these squads line up the advantage here goes to the Eels. Tipping the scales 7.3kgs heavier and a 12.9 cm height advantage. Broncos will also be without wrecking ball duo Tevita Pangai jnr and David Fifita due to suspension and a knee complaint respectively, which will be a massive loss. Prop Nathan Brown and Dummy half Reed Mahoney are likely to be ruled out for the Eels, however with Parramatta’s depth in these positions their absence should not be significant.
When all is said and done the losses in the engine room of Pangai jnr and Fifita for the Broncos are going to be too much of a deficient to overcome. I like the Eels here as a small underdog on the back of their strong defence.
