North Queensland Cowboys v Gold Coast Titans 5/29/20 NRL Rugby Pick, Odds, Prediction
Gold Coast Titans (0-2) v North Queensland Cowboys (1-1)
Friday May 29th 2020, 18:00 AEST (Sydney) 4AM EST Round 3
NRL Rugby League - Line Cowboys -8/Titans +8
The second game of the round sees the North Queensland Cowboys take on the Gold Coast Titans.
Before the break, the North Queensland Cowboys recorded a 1-1 result in their two games losing their season opener vs the Brisbane Broncos before producing a much more complete performance in a 24-16 win over the Canterbury Bulldogs. On the other hand, the break was no doubt welcomed by the lowly Titans, who, after recording a 24-6 loss in their opener to the Canberra Raiders, were destroyed in the late stages of the game vs the Parramatta Eels by a final score of 46-6.
As mentioned North Queensland are coming off a much better performance in their round 2 clash vs the Bulldogs winning the contest by a margin of 24-16. Lock forward Jason Taumalolo had a day out running up 345 metres in the victory setting a new record by a forward, the record previously held by Steve Price at 323. By half time Taumalolo amassed 193 total metres, 73 of which were post contact, in comparison the entire Bulldogs starting forward pack managed just 200. While they no doubt face a much weaker team here in the Titans, Coach Paul Green will not let his team overlook their inter-state rival.
Looking at this contest the biggest cloud for mine is the Cowboys defence. They allowed 16 points to a very week Bulldogs team in their last game and looked to struggle significantly against the big Broncos forward pack in round 1. That being said this Titans team has been in disarray during the break. English centre Kallum Watkins requesting a release to return home, the loss of AJ Brimson to injury and the bad publicity they have received due to players refusing their compulsory flu vaccinations.
Cowboys roll into this contest with a fairly settled squad with no significant injuries or suspensions apart from skipper Michael Morgan. Jake Clifford will get the start for the Cowboys in this one in his place and I look for him to step up to the plate and have a big game against a Titans team that cannot get out of their own way.
