The Wests Tigers take on the Cronulla Sharks in Saturday in Round Three NRL Rugby action.
Cronulla come into this game after a war against in their round two game vs the Melbourne Storm while the Tigers were handled convincingly against the Newcastle Knights 42-24. Tigers have split their start to the 2020 campaign with 1 win and 1 loss looking to get over the .500 in this contest while the Sharks will be looking to get their first win.
Sharks biggest deficiency so far from what we have seen is their inability to complete sets and activate their kicking game. Shaun Johnson and Chad Townsend give the Sharks a double punch kicking game but errors have hurt their ability to flip the field as the team hang at 14th in the league with only a 67% completion rate. This poor completion rate has seen them rely heavily on their defence to remain competitive.
Offensively the Tigers have had a lot of success in their first two games. They are completing 74% of their possessions and averaged 1460 run meters per game. They have scored 24 points in both games so far. They will be posted by the return of Luke Brooks in the halves, which will cause a reshuffle with either Billy Walters or Josh Reynolds to move to the interchange bench. The projected line-ups also suggest a backline reshuffle with Adam Doueihi expected to start at fullback pushing Corey Thompson to the flank and Moses Mbye into the centre position.
I think the Sharks are the better team in this contest but also feel that the Tigers have what it takes to be competitive. What we seen in the first two games was a Sharks team that wanted to play an in the trenches grind-out type of game. I feel this will be low scoring and come down to the wire so I will take the points here with the Tigers but I definitely like the under as well.
