Round 4 gets under way on Thursday when the 2-1 Brisbane Broncos take on the reigning premiers, the Sydney Roosters.
The Broncos were destroyed in their last performance against the Parramatta Eels by a final score of 34-6. Offensively they managed just a 63% completion rate and committed a total 15 errors. Tevita Pangai Jr and David Fifita were both sorely missed in the middle and the second phase opportunities they create. Brisbane were held to 98 less runs 1007 less total metres only 5 offloads compared to Parramatta’s 23. Jake Turpin topped the team defensively with 64 and prop Payne Hass accounted for a team high 196 run metres. A big focus this week will be Brisbane’s right side defence, which was left heavily exposed.
Roosters completed 33 of 38 sets against the Rabbitohs in what was a fairly even contest for the majority of the game. Roosters walked away victorious 28-12 with James Tedesco contributing 314 run meters, 2 line breaks and a try. The focus for the Roosters this week will likely be around missed tackles, missing a total of 37 in total. Good quality scrambling defence got them out of some sticky situations but in round 4 they face a Brisbane team looking to bounce back.
Brisbane will be without Alex Glenn, Kotoni Staggs, David Fifita and Tevita Pangai Jr in this contest while the Roosters remain relatively unchanged. After showing signs of life against the Rabbitohs, I really like the Roosters here to take advantage of an understaffed Brisbane line-up. I will be taking Roosters -6.5 in a blowout.
