The North Queensland Cowboys play host to the Cronulla Sharks in this round 4 NRL clash. Cowboys are off an impressive win over in-state rivals the Gold Coast Titans while despite mounting a fightback the Sharks lost at the hands of the Wests Tigers.
The Sharks organisation is under a cloud at the moment with one of their young stars Bronson Xerri suspended due to a steroid investigation. They have also been dealt an injury blow with experienced half Chad Townsend expected to miss the next two games with a hamstring injury. Sharks have averaged 14.7 points per game, which is good for 11th in the league, but find themselves ranked dead last in post contact metres.
Cowboys are likely to welcome back veteran back rower Gavin Cooper after missing a week due to injury. Cowboys dominated possession against the Titans and produced an 85% completion rate. 744 post contact metres, 8 line breaks and 33 tackle breaks set the tone for North Queensland to have great attacking field position. Sharks will no doubt display more resistance than the last two opponents the Cowboys have faced.
Cowboys is the play here. Too many external forces weighing down on this Sharks team and while I think this game will be a close one Cowboys should win by at least 4 points.
