The last game of round 5 sees the St George Dragons take on the Cronulla Sharks at Campbelltown Stadium. Sharks have opened as a 4.5-point favourite on the back of their maiden season win over the North Queensland Cowboys.
Ramien and Mulitalo both registered a try in each half in the win over the Cowboys. Sharks managed just 46% of possession but forced the Cowboys into cheap turnovers. Aaron Woods lead the Sharks in run metres with 180 while Toby Rodulf led the tackle count with 35. Cowboys managed just 61% completion against a strong Sharks defence. These two forward packs match up nicely with a lot of size and experience. Sharks will need halfback Shaun Johnson to outplay his opposite number if Cronulla are a chance of winning this one.
Dragons were plagued by errors in their last game vs the Bulldogs that rendered them unable to build any pressure and secure repeat sets. Their kicking game also gave up a staggering 859 kick return metres that allowed Canterbury to start their possessions outside of their red zone on many occasions. Cameron McInnes got through 55 tackles in the defeat.
All things considered, I am going to take the 4.5 points here with the Dragons. Likely not a popular play but Sharks have not shown me anything to constitute them as a favourite. Dragons have a respectable roster on paper and I feel like it is only a matter of time before they start clicking.
