Two of the top five teams face off in Friday NRL as the Melbourne Storm take on the Penrith Panthers at Campbelltown Stadium.
Panthers were in the driver’s seat against the Eels in their round 5 clash for 60mins. Unfortunately Parramatta only need a 6minute window offensively to steal the win, running in tries to Blake (61st min), Gutherson (64th min) and Matterson (67th min). If the Panthers are going to compete against this very good Storm roster, they need to shut down the forwards in the middle and lock down second phase opportunities. Panthers allowed 603 post contact metres, 38 tackle breaks and 15 offloads; stats they can ill-afford to repeat against Melbourne.
Melbourne are coming off arguably their best performance of the season taking care of the Newcastle Knights 26-12. In the win, they completed 90% of their possessions and manufactured 1932 run metres, 846 of which were post contact. Storm kicking game was on point flipping the field and forcing a couple of dropouts. They gave up only 6 errors and 3 penalties in the loss showing great respect for the ball.
While Storm run points in on the Knights I still have question marks around them offensively. Penrith will no doubt make adjustments defensively and I think this game will be a real grind. I will take 5.5 points with the underdog.
