NRL Rugby League – Line Raiders -4 /Sea Eagles +4
Manly and Canberra faceoff in Sunday Rugby League action in what should be one of the matches of the round.
Canberra are coming off a 14-6 win over the Wests Tigers while Manly managed to weather the storm early against Brisbane and fight back to record a 20-18 victory.
Manly got off to a slow start against Brisbane in round 5 action trailing 18-0 after 30mins. It proved to be a tale of two halves as Manly went on to lock scores up at 18all in the 64th minute and kicking a decisive penalty goal in the 70th off the boot of Rueben Garrick to seal the win. In the win, Manly recorded 54% of possession but managed only 11 tackle breaks and 7 offloads, which blunted their second phase attack. Manly got the win over Canberra in both regular season games in their 2019 campaign and will look to make it 3 in a row in this one.
Canberra took a while to get going in their win over the Tigers. They were held scoreless in the first half before Jack Wighton crossed in the 49th minute and Nick Cotric in the 54th minute to give the green machine the edge. Canberra’s kicking game was solid with 746 metres from 24 kicks which meant the Tigers were forced to come out of the end on most occasions and great discipline saw the Raiders concede just 6 penalties all game. Josh Papalii got through 40 tackles up front while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad had a good game out the back with 251 run metres.
I like the Raiders here in a close one. Manly have been good but the Raiders have been better on both sides of the ball. With each win having a significant bearing on the season outcome, I do not expect Canberra to lose many at all.
