Round 7 Rugby League action gets underway on Thursday with the Penrith Panthers taking on the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Campbelltown Stadium.
Penrith are coming off their biggest win of the season as they accounted for heavyweight rival the Melbourne Storm. Historically the Panthers have had very little success against Melbourne, however, in round 6 they walked away with the win by a final score of 21-14. Penrith lead the contest for the majority of the game and beat their opposition in both possession and completion rate. Apasai Koroisau got through a lot of work in the middle with 55 tackles while Josh Mansour on the wing, led the team in run metres with a game high 197.
Rabbitohs have hit good form of late winning their last 2 in a row. Their last game, a 40-12 defeat of the New Zealand Warriors was arguably their best game this season to date. Despite trailing 4-0 after 5mins the Rabbitohs continued to run in 7 tries with halfback Adam Reynolds converting 6 of 7. Considering the dominate display the team completed just 29 of their 42 possessions with a whopping 17 errors. This will no doubt be this week’s focus as they face a very strong Penrith team.
For mine the Rabbitohs are lacking the polish I have seen from several clubs at this point in the season. Turning the ball over 17 times against a lacklustre Warriors defence is inexcusable and given that Panthers were in reality 6 mins away from being undefeated at this point in the season I am going to have to side with them.
