NRL Round 8 action gets underway on Friday with two of the heavyweights going to war in the Melbourne Storm and the Sydney Roosters.
Roosters are coming off a hard fought win over the St George Dragons. Scores were locked at 10all heading into the half time break before 2 second half tries to Brett Morris and another to five eight Luke Keary was enough for the Roosters to pull away. In this game Roosters managed just 46% possession and 77% completion against a very hungry Dragons opposition. They did however make their possessions count outgaining the Dragons 2023m to 1594m with 787 of those being post contact metres. Injuries early in the contest did not seem to face Sydney but some adjustments will need to be made heading into this contest vs the Storm.
Storm are coming off their best performance of the season, a 50-6 dismantling of the New Zealand Warriors. In the win the Storm chalked up 9 tries; 3 of which to Vunivalu while Momirovski and Papenhuyzen both scored doubles. Storm sliced through the thin Warriors defence at will with 8 line break, 31 tackle busts and 257 kick return metres. They no doubt face a more formidable opponent here in the Sydney Roosters.
I think the best play here is the under. Both teams have very structured defences that force teams into mistakes and are also good at draining the clock. Strong kicking games will force teams to start their possessions deep in their own halves.
