Round 8 NRL action on Saturday the 4th of July sees the Cronulla Sharks travel to the sunshine State to face the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium.
Sharks destroyed the Sea Eagles in their last outing by a final score of 40-22. They seemingly took their foot off the gas though leading at one stage 40-12. In the win they chalked up 5-line breaks, 40 tackle busts but surprisingly not a single offload. Blayke Brailey lead the tackle count with 43 while Andrew Fifita led the team in run metres with 149. Shaun Johnson currently sits atop the competition in try assists with 10.
The Titans took care of the Brisbane Broncos in their last start courtesy of a relentless first half which saw them lead 22-0. Anthony Don crossed for two tries while Ash Taylor is returning to form with a try and some very classy touches. Titans had 52% of possession and completed 81% of their sets. Their defence was stout against the Broncos keeping them to just 394 post contact metres and 1229 metres overall. Keegan Hipgrave led with 34 tackles while Anthony Don topped the team in run metres with 164.
Sharks seemingly have turned a corner and have been good to watch of late. Shaun Johnson is doing a brilliant job in the middle calling the shots and while it was good to see the Titans last week I think they will have a big let down here.
