Manchester United vs Wigan 8/11/13 Free Pick

The Charity Shield will see a rather novel match up on Sunday when Champions Manchester United take on Wigan Athletic. Wigan had the distinction of becoming the first FA Cup winners to be relegated in the same season. New Wigan boss Owen Coyle has been impressed with his new surroundings and the team that he inherited from Roberto Martine. There is a chance, of course, that Coyle will lose a couple of his jewels with James McCarthy in particular being eyed by several Premier League clubs and there is a good chance that the young Irishman will be playing elsewhere by the time the transfer window closes. Wigan have added some attacking talent in the form of former Norwich City front man Grant Holt. This to me is a great signing as Holt is a perfect striker for the Championship and I fully believe Wigan will bounce back and gain promotion this year. With that said, the task ahead for Wigan today is massive and I would not be too optimistic for the Latics lifting the Charity Shield.
Manchester United start their season officially today and David Moyes will be hoping that he can win his first piece of silverware as Manchester United manager, missing Wayne Rooney, Nani and Ashley Young will have made his team selection a little easier and all the signs point towards a debut for Wilfriied Zaha, the exciting youngster signed from Crystal Palace last january who finally arrived at Old Trafford in the summer. Robin Van Persie the league’s top scorer for the last two years will lead the line and will be supported by Danny Wellbeck, Tom Cleverly, Michael Carrick and Anderson, who are all trying to provide the through passes for the front two. United have had a somewhat up and down pre season and no doubt there will be teething issues when bringing in a new manager after Sir Alex Ferguson(who was everpresent for 26 years).
I dont, generally speaking, like backing on games like this one as its really just a glorified friendly, but on this occasion I will make an exception because I believe Manchester United are going to try to come out and win this in style. I fancy United to strike early and I fancy that they will go for it from the outset. Wigan, to their credit though, will be hard to beat and I think their front men can cause United problems, I’m looking at the goals market here and I fancy the look of over 2.5 goals. I think Wigan will net one, but I fancy United to win overall and I am going to have a bet on United to win by 2 or more at 10/11 as well.
