In case you missed my return to Sports Chat Place yesterday I’ve returned after a hiatus but for now only in a weekly capacity, writing about my “Top” Matches and at times “Value” Matches of the week.
Here’s my first article of the week previewing my Top Matches (http://sportschatplace.com/soccer-picks/2013/08/11/top-soccer-matches-of-the-week) and now I’m writing about my Value Matches, game that I think are worth a look from both an entertainment and betting perspective.

Argentina Premira Division: Boca Juniors vs. Newell’s Old Boys (La Bombonera) – Tuesday August 13, 2013
The first match we’ll be looking at takes place on Tuesday in the Argentina Premira Division, as biggest and most well-known teams around the world in Buenos Aires outfit Boca Juniors host Rosario based club Newell’s Old Boys at the iconic stadium nicknamed La Bombonera (The Chocolate Box). The season having just begun it’s hard to tell how both sides will come out for this match, however while Boca are clearly the more talented side Newell’s are coming off winning last season’s Torneo Final. The Argentine Premira is split into two seasons a Torneo Inicial and a Torneo Final, the winners of both seasons play in a Superfinal, Newell’s ended up losing that match by a 1-0 score line to Velez Sarsfield.
Both sides have some recognizable players with top pedigree, Boca Juniors has the midfield combo of Juan Roman Riquelme and Fernando Gago while Newell’s Old Boys has former standout on the French national team in forward David Trezeguet and former Atletico Madrid and Liverpool midfielder Maxi Rodriguez. Personally I’m leaning toward Boca Juniors to win this match outright; as their first win of the season is already in the books having defeated Cordoba based side Belgrano 2-1 while Newell’s Old Boys have the near impossible task of starting the season away from home in La Bombonera.
Prediction: Boca Junior ML (+125)
English Premier League: Norwich City Vs. Everton (Carrow Road) – Saturday August 17, 2013
The next match that might fly under your radar is Everton under new manager Roberto Martinez traveling to Carrow Road to take on a Norwich City side that finished safely in mid table last campaign, Martinez comes over from relegated Wigan Athletic and was busy raiding his former club for the likes of forward Arouna Kone, goalkeeper Joel Robles and Antolin Alcaraz. Norwich under Chris Hughton hasn’t changed the team around too much but added quality in Dutch forwards Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Leroy Fer from Portuguese side Sporting CP and Dutch club FC Twente respectively as well as forward Gary Hooper from Scottish side Celtic.
While this isn’t one of the sexiest matches on the opening EPL fixture list there is tons of value, I’m leaning toward a small play on Norwich to win outright on fantastic odds but the better play to me is the OVER 2.5 due to the attacking style both sides deploy, Norwich’s upgraded attack, Everton still working out the kinks under Roberto Martinez and players like Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini possibly having their heads turned being linked to top teams in the transfer window.
Prediction: OVER 2.5 (-105), Norwich ML (+200)
Dutch Eredivisie: Ajax Amsterdam vs. Feyenoord Rotterdam (Amsterdam ArenA) – Sunday August 18, 2013
The final match we’ll be looking at is a rivalry in the Dutch Eredivisie between two clubs coming off interesting results, as Feyenoord coming off a 4-1 drubbing at home to FC Twente in which two of its players in defenders Stefan de Vrij and Jordy van Deelen were sent off travel to the Amsterdam ArenA to battle an Ajax side that lost 3-2 to AZ Alkmaar. Ajax are the slightly more talented side with such players as former Barcelona academy player Bojan Krkic and the Danish midfield star Christian Eriksen, the play of Eriksen in particular will set the tone to how well the defending champions do this season.
At the moment the betting odds for this game is unavailable but if I were to lean anywhere it would be the OVER 2.5 goals, picking Ajax outright might not have the best value considering the now weakened stat of Feyenoord, Ajax being the defending champions and at home but it’s fairly safe to say the OVER would be a better play.
Prediction: OVER 2.5
I hope that these matches are winners for you, not only when betting but also from a pure entertainment perspective.
Until next time sit back, relax and enjoy the games!
