Chelsea vs Hull City Tigers 08/18/2013 Free Pick and Preview

Hull City Tigers have probably gotten the short end of the stick with regards to their first Premier League game of the season, the Tigers travel to London to take on Chelsea who will be celebrating the return of “the Special one”(Jose Mourhino) as manager. Hull’s manager Steve Bruce will know that the Tigers season will not be judged on their away results against Chelsea or any of the other top teams in the league but rather how the Tigers perform against the lower teams and if they can avoid relegation. Hull gained promotion to the Premier League behind some impressive performances from young Irish men David Meyler and Robbie Brady and with Steve Bruce strengthening the team’s strength in depth bringing in Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore it would appear at least on paper that Hull have a midfield capable of creating chances and competing with the bigger teams. Generally Hull are being touted for relegation and on the face of it I cant disagree with my fellow sports writers. There appears to be a lack of quality up front for Hull in terms of goalscorers and in the Premier League the smaller teams need to have at least one clinical finisher, I’m not sure that Hull have addressed that need.
Chelsea will welcome back Jose Mourhino to the ‘Bridge on Sunday and it really should be a carnival atmosphere on Sunday. With a huge amount of pressure on the Blues to compete for the league title this season all eyes will be on Mourhino and co Sunday afternoon. Chelsea have strengthened their hand with the addition of Schurrle in the off season and with Lukaku coming back to his parent club from a terrific loan season at West Brom there are lots of young talented attackers at Mourhino’s disposal. The real strength though in this Chelsea squad is in midfield where the mix of youth and experience is terrific, Hazard and Mata along with Lampard are three of the most exciting footballers in the Premier League. Mata in particular was sensational last season and if the Spaniard can continue that form through this season then I think Chelsea could be Champions come May. Fernando Torres is in a make or break season and the Spaniard must prove his worth to Mourhino early in this season, personally I think Torres has shown signs of life and I expect him to have a big season for the blues.
This game is a mismatch on paper and I think it will turn out that way on the field too. The bookmakers have this one priced up right there is no value in taking Chelsea straight up, the handicap market is tight on value too. Chelsea to win by 3 or more is priced at 7/5 and while there isnt alot of value there I think that this Chelsea offence could run wild if they can get an early goal against the Premier League new boys. I have a feeling Jose and Chelsea will put in a big performance at the weekend and I’m going to take Chelsea -2 on the handicap.
