The biggest game of the season thus far see’s the current Champions Manchester United take on the pre season favourites Chelsea, in the battle of the new managers will Moyes or Mourhino come out on top? Manchester United started the season with a comfortable 4-1 win away to Swansea, a game that was a potential banana skin was very comfortable for the Champions and one in which Robin Van Persie, Danny Wellbeck and the majority of the United midfield looked very sharp and focused. An appearance by Wayne Rooney in the final half an hour was greeted with joy from the traveling United faithful who clearly havent lost faith in their English Talisman, Rooney duly oblidged setting up one and creating a couple of chance for his team mates as well. If Rooney really does want out of United then he hid it well last weekend. Tomorrow night’s game represents something of a strange occasion though with Chelsea the club that are chasing Rooney coming to town and under new boss Jose Mourhino you can be sure there will be nothing mundane or routine about Monday night’s game.
Jose Mourhino has had the perfect start to his job as Chelsea boss, two wins from two competitive starts but that doesnt tell the whole story. Chelsea were far from impressive in their opening day victory over Hull and again struggled for long periods against Aston Villa and to be fair to Villa Chelsea were very lucky to come away with a win in that game. To a degree Chelsea’s problems from last season are still evident this year and there is no clear cohesive attacking play with the team, while there are some superb individuals in Juan Mata, Fernando Torres, Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard, the sum of the parts do not seem to quite fit together. Chelsea have gone into the transfer market again and picked up Brazilian Willian but at the moment I think Mourhino really wants Wayne Rooney, I think Mourhino see’s Rooney as the type of player he could build a League winning team around and at the moment Chelsea are missing that star center forward as Torres just is not playing to his ability.
One of the first really big games of the season and it is a tough one to call. Personally I think David Moyes and Manchester United will really be lookign forward to this game and it is one that United will have identified on the release of the fixture list. Chelsea have proven themselves to be tough to break down thus far but both of their games have been in their home ground and I think an away game in Old Trafford where the atmosphere is sure to be magic may just be too much for a stuttering blues side. At 6/4 a price that i just cant ignore, I’m going to jump on Manchester United to win David Moyes first home Premier League game and hand Jose Mourhino his first competitive loss as Chelsea manager on his second coming.
