Manchester United Transfer News: Ander Herrera Open To Move To United In January
Manchester United will return to Athleitc Bilbao for Ander Herrera in January
David Moyes and Ed Woodward will have another opportunity to redeem themselves in the January transfer window, as, despite UK media reports to the contrary, Ander Herrera is still open to a move from Athletic Bilbao.
I have been one of the strongest critics of Manchester United`s disastrous transfer antics, which made the club and David Moyes and Ed Woodward look like a bunch of amateurs, however, I will also always give somebody an opportunity to make amends for their mistakes.
With that in mind, it must have come as a great relief to Manchester United when Ander Herrera, the centre of the biggest farce of the transfer window, made a statement that he was open to a move to United in January, as long as the clubs can agree on a deal.
It is a pity that this approach was not adopted by Manchester United`s transfer team before launching a scattergun approach to the business of attracting new players. If only United had begun their approaches for the player weeks ago, they would have had time to iron out all the tricky details, which inevitably crop up when dealing with foreign players. Rules and laws are different in every country, so it would make sense to start the ball rolling early, thereby giving yourself plenty of time to sort out any snags. Unfortunately, United left it too late and when the inevitable problems arose, they didn`t have enough time to iron them out.
Hopefully they will have learned from their experience and in future they will adopt a more professional approach. Personally, I still think that a director of football, experienced in all matters transfer, would be a better idea, especially for a club the size of Manchester United.
However, it remains to be seen how they will deal with the notoriously tricky January transfer window when it comes around.
