Short write ups will be the order of the day as I preview the Internatinal World Cup qualifiers. One of the games of the day sees Giovanni Trapatonni's Ireland play host to Sweden in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin. Ireland are very much a team in transition as a lot of the older players that helped the team reach Euro 2012 have retired from duty. But the future is looking bright for the green army, with Robbie Brady, James McCarthy Shane long and keiron Westwood all staring for their respective clubs of late and in McCarthy's case, he was the subject of a big transfer fee coming back to the Premier league and Everton from relegated Wigan.
This Irish team has proven to be a tough nut to crack and with the exception of a defeat to Germany, the Irish have looked the second best team in the group. I expect Trapatoni to still play a defensive game and try to contain and isolate Sweden's star man Zlatan Ibrahimich. The PSG star is capable of the sublime as well as the ridiculous and often in International games, I feel like he doesn't give enough to the cause and lags way behind his compatriots like Seb Larson and Johan elmander. Ireland will be tough to beat at home and I have a feeling that the boys in green may just pull off a shock and beat Sweden tonight. Ireland can be backed t 2/1 to do just that, but the bet I like most is Ireland double chance at 8/15. If Ireland can avoid a defeat, we will be cashing a winner! For those looking for a little more gamble, I think the 2/1 about Ireland winning outright looks a really big price. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
