Manchester United Transfer News: Luke Shaw Of Southampton Is United Target For January Transfer Window
United target Southampton`s Luke Shaw in January transfer window
Since the debacle of Manchester United`s Summer transfer activities, it looks like a bit of fatherly advice from Sir Alex Ferguson has been heeded and United are targeting Southampton’s new whiz-kid, Luke Shaw to eventually replace Patrice Evra in the left-back role.
Now that the Premier League season is starting to settle down, we are seeing the trends develop. All the dire predictions about Manchester United`s demise after failing to sign a host of superstars now seems a little off the mark, especially when you look at Chelsea`s results; no win in the last four games.
However, you can never stand still in football and today we have heard that David Moyes will be looking to make an offer for Luke Shaw who is currently at Southampton. Shaw is already an England U-21 International and has also played for the senior squad. Claims that he is the next Gareth Bale may be a little premature, but the Southampton academy is world renowned for producing some of the top footballers, with the likes of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to mention just two.
Southampton signed Shaw up to a new 5 year contract last year when he was 18 in anticipation of offers from other clubs, so they will not be panicked into selling. That means Manchester United might have to pay a premium fee in the region of as much as £25m for his signature, however, that will not daunt Moyes as he continues the pursuit of younger players as did his predecessor.
Moyes will have to wait until January to make an official move, but it is likely that contact will be made before then as Chelsea and Arsenal have also been sniffing around and United will not want to be drawn into a bidding war.
