After a shock defeat to Everton was followed by a Champions League loss to Basel there were many in the media saying Mourhino had lost his touch but since then Chelsea have put together a terrific run winning four of five and a respectable draw away to Tottenham. Mourhino seems to have settled on a 4-3-3 system which now includes Mata and Oscar with a central striker. Fernando Torres will be missing through injury so that central role will be filled by either Samuel Eto or Demba Ba. Chelsea's strength in depth is obvious when you look at the midfield with hazard, Lampard, Mikel, Mata, Oscar, De Bruyne, Schurrle its ridiculous. Mourhino has an embaressment of riches although at the moment the team is struggling for a front man. Torres before he got injured looked to be the player most likely to emerge as Mourhino's focal point but a sending off against Tottenham and a knee injury in European competition has put a stall on that. It will be interesting to watch on Saturday and see who Mourhino picks to lead the teamup front.
Cardiff City have lost three of their last four in all competitions but manager Mackay will know that Cardiff's season will not hinge on how they do against the big teams away from home. Cardiff have looked tough on defence in recent games though and I'm sure they will approach this game in London with a good attitude. I think Craig Bellamy, Frazier Campbell and Odemwingie will provide an outlet for Cardiff but Chelsea will own alot of possession and it will be in midfield and defence that Cardiff spend most of their time chasing the ball.
Its hard to look past a Chelsea win here its a game similar to the Arsenal one. There is no value in taking Chelsea straight up but I think Chelsea may struggle to put more than two goals past Cardiff. Cardiff in fact have not conceded more than two away from home yet this season. I'm going to take the under in this game and recommend a small bet on Chelsea winning 2-0 as it seems to be a favourite scoreline of Mourhino over the years. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
