Back in August there were many pundits, fans and general know it alls calling for the head of Arsene Wenger after his side succumbed to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season. It was apparently obvious that Wenger's time in London was done and he should move on. Well Wenger told another story, he said he believed in his squad of players and that they could contend for the title even without further recruits in the transfer window. Wenger was right. #mce_temp_url#Arsenal did add Mezut Ozil to the squad on transfer deadline day and have been exceptional ever since that loss to Villa. Arsenal have played some scintillating football with Aaron Ramsey, Olivier Giroud and Mezut Ozil playiing some exceptional football add in Jack Wilshire to the equation as the young english man seems to be finding his feet again after a poor start and you can see why Wenger had faith in his charges. Arsenal at the moment look good value for their lead in the Barclays Premier League and it would appear at the moment that the side can truly contend for both domestic and European honours this season. With that said Tuesday night and last year's beaten Champions League finalist Borussia Dortmund will present a real challenge for the Gunners.
If Wenger can be credited for the success attained at Arsenal this year then Jurgen Klopp likewise deserves major credit for turning Borussia Dortmund into contender in Europe again. Klopp has a dynamic style of management and has his team playing great attacking football with the brilliant Robert Lewandowsk and Marco Reus up front. Add in summer addition Aubemeyang ,signed from Saint Etienne in the summer, you can see why this side is among the very best in Europe. But Dortmund have struggled a little away from home and after outplaying Napoli for much of the first match in this group they succumbed to the Italians and it has left their group hopes on a razor edge. The germans know that they must not lose in the Emirates on Tuesday to give themselves a realistic chance of winning the group but its a tough task to go to London and come away from the Emirates with something especially since Arsenal have won five on the bounce there since losing to Aston Villa on the opening day of the Premier League season.
This game looks absolutely mouthwatering for the neutral football fan, two attack minded teams that like to play a fast free flowing game with the ball on the ground. So much attacking talent in either side and two progressive managers who will be looking to get the win. Surely thats the recipe for a great game of football? Either way I will be taking both teams to score here, I just cant see either defence being able to deal with the oppositions offence and I think we could be in for a cracker of a match. I'm taking both teams to score and follow me on twitter@antonpippo. I also like the 2-2 scoreline here and will be taking a small punt on that at big odds for those interested in a little more gamble.
