There was a goalfest at the Ethiad Stadium on Saturday as Manchester City put seven past Norwich in what was an absolutel mauling. The Citizens put in their best performance of the season with seven different scoreres and a masterclass performance. Ya Ya Toure and Sergio Aguero were particularly impressive and they will hope to continue that form when they host CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night. A win will all but ensure that City are through to the last sixteen of the Champions League in its current format for the first time in their history and will ensure that Tuesday night might very well be a carnival atmosphere. Manuel Pelligrini will try to keep his team focused on teh job at hand which is to beat CSKA Moscow and I'm sure Pelligrini will field yet more questions about the decision to drop Joe Harte last weekend from an English Media that is obsessed with the pedantic points and not the overall picture. The reality for Joe Harte is he is being replaced by a keeper in better form and as long as Pantilimon continues to play well I cant see any reason Pelligrini would revert back to Harte, its time for Joe to man up and fight for his position which I am convinced he will do. Harte appears a thorough professional and we'll see how committed he is in the coming weeks.
CSKA Moscow are in for a tough game on Tuesday night, Manchester City seem to have found their form of late especially at home and with qualification for the knockout stages on the line we have to assume City will be at their very best on Tuesday. Zoran Tosic, the former Manchester United winger will look to continue his good form as he has netted five goals in his last four starts and scored against City in the reverse fixture. Doumbia, Tosic and Musa will put up a fight for CSKA though and with Honda pulling the strins from midfield I expect CSKA to be a threat on the counter attack.
I'm taking Manchester City -1 on the handicap here, I would take City at -2 but its a tough cover in the Champions LEague for any team to be three or more ahead at the end of the 90 minutes. Still City -1 looks a really good bet here and I will be all over it. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo.
