Monaco's biggest loss of the season may have occurred on Wednesday night when the team lost star striker Ramadal Falcao to injury for the rest of the season with a cruciate knee injury. Claudio Ranieri will probably look to bring in a striker in the last five days of the January transfer window but he most certainly will not be able to replace Falcao's talent. The burden on finding the net will now rest on young french striker Emmanuel Riviere who has already netted eight goals in seventeen league games this year but will have to really step up in the second half of the season to replace the goals, movement of Falcao who is one of the best strikers on the planet. Monaco do have a lot of top class players though with Carvalyho , Abidal, Mouthino and the aforementioned Riviere will the team be able to step up and take advantage of PSG's slip on Saturday where they dropped points away to Guinamp?
Marseille have been a jekyl and hyde team this year especially in Ligue one , a trip to monaco is probably not going to improve Marseille's recent bad run of form either. Marseille have lost their last two last time out a crazy 4-5 loss to Nice in the cup. Marseille have some decent strikers with Ayew and Gignac attracting alot of attention from abroad especially the british premier league. Whether or not either would be successful in England is debatable but the success of Loic Remy in the Premier League certainly has to have teams thinking about more french imports. Can Marseille though get a result in Monaco? Personally I dont think so.
Even with the loss of Falcao I think Monaco will just have too much for Marseille. Monaco under Ranieri have been excellant at home as well with only one loss all season in the Stade Louis II stadium. At 17/20 i think Monaco are one of the better bets of the weekend and I will be taking them to win this outright and close the gap on a PSG team that has looked less than impressive in their last couple of outings.
