Bayern Munich are the European Champions, they came into this tie as very heavy favourites and came away from Old Trafford with a point after a subdued performance in a game where they dominated possession but did not create all that many chances. Coming back to Germany to the Allianz Arena though Munich are still the team in pole position to qualify, Bayern know that if they prevent United from scoring they will go through no matter what happens at the other end of the field. Missing Martinez and Schweinsteiger for the tie is not ideal but Pep Guardiola is lucky to have a squad or enormous depth and quality and will bring in a replacement like Goetze who would start for 99% of other teams. Ribery and Robben on the wings will be kwy for Munich , the two terrorised defences all through Europe last season and have done the same this season, a quiet night for both in Manchester last week but Ribery still had an assist and Robben the best shot of the night for Bayern. Both players are always dangerous with the ball and United's rearguard will agains have to put in a 10 star effort to repel the duel attack on Wednesday night.
While David Moyes first season in charge of Manchester United has been a relative disappointment, the teams performances in Europe have been effective and more impressive. The first leg in Old Trafford while conceding possession United still created the best chances and had Danny Wellbeck finished one of his two great opportunity's this game would have a very different feel about it. United should, in my opinion, employ the same tactics use the pace of Wellbeck to get at Bayern and emply Rooney and Kagawa as extra midfield cover when United are not in possession. I pointed out Kagawa's importance to the tie last week and I still feel that he will be the key for United if they are to progress, because United must score. Kagawa's vision and pace on the break will be essential.
Simply put I dont think the bookmakers have this one priced right at all, Bayern should definitely be favourite but Manchester United should not be 12/1. I'm taking United +2 on the handicap and will spread a little on the +1 as well. I think that while Bayern should win, nothing is certain in football. Bayern just lost for the first time in 57 games in the Bundesliga and they will be missing their captain Schweinsteiger, can Manchester United win tomorrow? Maybe not that's a huge ask but a 1-1 draw and extra time? Thats not impossible! Take Manchester United +2. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
