On Sunday Manchester City lost to Liverpool in an exhilirating game that could yet decide the Premier League. Manchester City came from 2-0 down to level the game 2-2 before going behind to a terrific Phillip Couthino strike after a horrendous error from Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany. At 2-2 it appeared as if Manchester City were the team most likely to push on for a winner but then came Kompany's mistake and a mixture of good luck , good defending and bad referreeing ensured that Liverpool seen out the remaining seventeen minutes( 12 minutes normal time and 5 minutes added). Manchester City though have proven this season that they are very resiliant and have bounced back with big wins after four of their five defeats previously this season. There is no reason Manchester City wont make five from six on Wednesday night when they face Sunderland, the worst team in the league. Although Manchester City look to have lost Ya Ya Toure to injury for the remainder of the season there is enough quality in this squad to replace their talisman with someone of the quality of Garcia, Jovetich or Negredo. Also the return of Sergio Aguero is a huge positive for City and the little Argentine looked a little off when he made an appearance on Sunday but will get sharper with game time.
Sunderland are in a win or bust situation now, going to the Ethiad is a no lose situation for the balck cats in one way, they are expected to lose so the team can throw caution to the wind in an attempt to get a much needed win. Their is hope of Sunderland fans though as their team did manage to beat Manchester City 1-0 earlier in the season. Gus Poyet will be looking for big performances from his captain John O'Shea and his central partner Wes Brown. Cattermole, Johnson and Borini will also be vital for the black cats if they are to get anything from this game.
Hard to see anything other than a Manchester City win here. Manchester City have won fourteen of their fifteen home games this year and I expect them to make it fifteen on Wednesday. The handicap is set at +2 and while that looks just about right I think Manchester City will be smarting from the loss to Liverpool and will be looking to bounce back with a big result here. I am going to take Manchester City to win by three or more. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
