After losing three nil to Everton in Goodison Park two weeks ago it appeared as if Arsenal's season was about to come apart, but the Gunners have responded well by beating Wigan in an FA Cup semi final and putting back to back victories together in the league to give themselves the edge in the race for fourth in the league. Of course thre reward for fourth is Champions League football and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has never failed to achieve Champions League football in his time in England a remarkable achievement for the penny pinching French Man. With most of his stars back in the team Arsenal have looked a far more formidable side in the last two outings the return of Ozil and Ramsey has rejuvenated the side and Podolski, Giroud , Cazorla and the Ox have all up their game as well. Scoring three in each of their last two outings the Gunners will fancy their chances of putting a few past a Newcastle side who have lost their last five and conceded more than three in three of those five games.
Newcastle's season has just bombed since winning in Hull in a game that seen Alan Pardew suspended for the rest of the season for headbutting a Hull player. In reality Pardew should also have received his marching orders from the club for such a breech of discipline but having had a realitively good season until that point it is no surprise that Mike Ashley shyed away from a sacking. Pardew though has been missing from the sideline and his team has played like a managerless one, ruderless on the field and to a point lacking effort. The Magpies did show a little more bite last weekend at home against Swansea but that looks more the exception than the rule as Newcastle suffered embaressing defeats to Everton, Southampton and Manchester United in the three weeks prior.
On paper this appears a cakewalk for Arsenal and while Newcastle have some very talented individuals like Remy, Cissoko, Tiote they just look like a team who have given up on the season. No chance of getting European football and no chance of relegation has meant that the season has just pettered out for the Newcastle team. I'm taking the overs here and Arsenal to win on the handicap as I think the Emirates will get a show tonight from an Arsenal side coming into form a tad bit too late. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
