The last World Cup matchup on Monday will be the debut of both Ghana and the United States.
The United States is looking to build on its World Cup success four years ago when it made a historic run to the round of 16 and won Group C. However, it will have to do so without its most popular player in Landon Donovan. The US isn’t a flashy team, but instead plays fundamentally sound soccer and relies heavily on not making mistakes. Even without Donovan, Tim Howard is one of the top goalies in the tournament and Jozy Altidore is capable of being a scoring-machine once he finds his groove. Michael Bradley is also a creative shot maker who has 12 career international goals under his belt.

Ghana is making just its third World Cup appearance, but has had some minor success that includes making the quarterfinals in 2010. Ghana has eliminated the US in the last two World Cups and has enough offense to do it again if they aren’t careful. Asamoah Gyan is a natural scorer, who has 100 goals in just three seasons with Al Ain. Kevin-Prince Boateng is also no stranger to putting the ball in the net, as he scored the lone goal against the US back in the 2010 World Cup match. Ghana has one of the best midfields in the tournament and shouldn’t be slept on whatsoever.
This matchup could go either way and is a highly anticipated matchup for a reason. While Ghana has more offensive firepower, this is a must win match for the US. The Americans can’t lose this match and expect to make it out of the Group of Death.
With that being said, I believe the US will find a way to squeeze out a victory.
The desperation will rally the Americans together and make for a solid effort that results in a one-goal victory.
