Brazil vs. Mexico

World Cup: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 3:00 pm (Brazil)

The Line: Mexico +950; O/U: 2.5 See the Latest Odds

Brazil looks to earn their second win in as many tries on Tuesday as they take on Mexico in what should be a battle for top spot in Pool A.

The Mexicans head into their second fixture on Tuesday afternoon looking to build on their lackluster victory against Cameroon in their tournament opener but they’ll have their hands full with tournament favourite and host Brazil. El Tri dominated most of the play against their counterparts from Africa in their tournament opener and while the score line didn’t indicate how bad things could have been in favour of the Mexicans as they had to legit goals called back the fact remains that they were only able to solve the Cameroon back end on one occasion. Mexico struggled a bit heading into the World Cup as they had to play their way through a qualifying match just to get to Brazil but expectations remain high and while they are heavy underdogs here they are more than capable of going stride for stride with Brazil who didn’t have their best game to open the tournament either.

Mexico vs. Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/17/14

The hosts are massive favourites here based largely on their underwhelming effort in the tournament opener which saw them concede the first goal and while they responded nicely it wasn’t without controversy as many outside of the yellow and blue kits felt a called penalty in the box was unwarranted. Brazil had ample opportunity to put Croatia away in their first game but never really seized the opportunity and even the two goals outside of the penalty kick from Neymar looked saveable from a viewing vantage point. You can be sure that Brazil will come out firing in this contest as they would love to wrap up the pool this afternoon and a victory would likely do so as their remaining opponent is Cameroon and they are expected to fly out after the group stage. The way this tournament has gone so far has me inclined to take the over here as taking a side is ridiculous with this line on both accounts and I think the total is the better way to go. Brazil seem susceptible at the back end and while Mexico didn’t concede to Cameroon that is certainly their weakness as well and for this one I see the trend of high scoring affairs continuing as I think the over could hit by half time.
