Croatia and Cameroon battle on Wednesday afternoon as both teams look to rebound after a loss in their respective tournament openers.
Croatia had the unfortunate task of taking on the hosts from Brazil on the biggest stage in the first game of the tournament last Thursday and while many expected a thrashing by the hosts it was in fact the exact opposite. The final score line read 3-1 for Brazil but it didn’t come without controversy as Fred took a dive in the box that the referee deemed not only a penalty but a yellow card as well and that was the turning point as the Brazilians added a goal in stoppage time to put the game on ice. Croatia though netted the first goal of the tournament on an own goal from the Brazilian back end and up until they conceded the penalty kick they were going stride for stride with Brazil who many are considering a favourite to win the tournament and they get one of their best players back in Mario Mandzukic whose play in the middle will help Croatia immensely.

Cameroon showed some life in their tournament opener against Mexico as they held El Tri to just a single goal and as it stands right now they sit ahead of Croatia on goal differential heading into this contest. The African side is led by Samuel E’to up front but beyond that they are quite thin and of the African nations competing might be at the bottom of the draw and in a group with Croatia, Mexico, and Brazil it is expected they will be a three and done team that will be going home next week. Cameroon were lucky to be in the position they were after 90 minutes as Mexico had two goals called back which made the score line a lot more respectable than it could have been and I don’t think that bodes well for them here. Croatia are incredibly furious with the way things ended against Brazil and for the most part they were the better team in the tournament opener and they will be using Cameroon here as a doormat in what I think could be an ugly final score line. Mandzukic is back which should free up Luka Modric and if Croatia can get even a semi improved effort from their goaltender I think they win with ease and I love the value of taking them minus a goal.
