In a Friday night World Cup match, Ecuador and Honduras will take the field in a game that will remove any hope of the loser advancing to the next round.
Ecuador lost a heartbreaker against Switzerland in its opening game, allowing a goal in the final seconds to lose the match, 2-1. Instead of settling for one point and having a fighting chance, Ecuador now has zero points and is on the brink of elimination. Tough stuff. The good news is that Ecuador played with a great pace and kept Switzerland on its heels, however, it was too cautious on the defensive end and often looked like they knew something bad was eventually going to happen. Enner Valencia, who scored the lone goal in the loss, has to have another big game for Ecuador to have a chance in this match.

Honduras was absolutely crushed by France in a 3-0 loss, as they had no answer for Karim Benzema, who scored two goals in the victory. The type of loss could really crush a team’s confidence, but Luis Fernando Suarez is a veteran coach who has been with this team for a while and should have his guys ready. Honduras will need a big performance from Jerry Bengtson if they’re to have a shot of winning this match. Pretty much a no show in the game against France, Bengtson has been a consistent goal scorer throughout qualifying matches and has 19 international goals under his belt.
So, we can either go with the team that had its heart ripped out or the team that showed little heart. The odds heavily favor Ecuador, which seems about right but there’s little value with the line. That’s why I’m going to pick this as a draw.
Both teams can struggle for long stretches offensively and the pressure of the match is going to result in some tight play. I see this game similar to the Brazil-Mexico match.
