Germany and Ghana will take the field Saturday afternoon for a World Cup match that has a lot on the line. Germany can advance with a win, while Ghana needs a win just to stay alive.
Germany has probably looked the best of any team in the tournament in its opening round, winning 4-0 over Portugal. Some would say Portugal didn’t show up, which is true, but holding them scoreless and putting four balls in the net is no easy task however you want to slice it. Thomas Muller produced a hat trick in the victory and is clearly in top form. And while Germany looks like the best team in the tournament thus far, it is dealing with injuries to players Mats Hummels and Jérôme Boateng. Hummels, who scored in the opening win, is doubtful for this matchup.

Ghana played an uninspired match against the United States, losing 2-1. It looked like Ghana was going to settle for a draw before falling asleep on a corner kick late in the match and allowing an easy game winner. Not to mention Ghana also allowed one of the fastest goals in World Cup history within the first minute. That lack of defense certainly isn’t going to fly against a team such as Germany. Coach Kwesi Appiah admitted that his team was awful down the stretch and knows his guys must give a better effort. While the focus will be on Ghana’s defense for good reason, players such as Kwadwo Asamoah need to create more opportunities offensively.
Ghana may be in over its head in this match, especially with its inability to stop such easy goals. However, Ghana does have the offensive firepower to make this game interesting. With both squads capable of putting the ball in the net, I like the over.
This has the looks of a 3-1 or 3-2 game. It should be entertaining.
