Korea looks to make a stride towards the round of 16 with a victory in the group stage over their counterparts from Algeria.
South Korea were considered one of the co-favourites to emerge out of this group and their talent shone through in a tournament opening draw against Russia in what was one of the more exciting two-way matches of the World Cup so far. The Koreans were able to limit the damage done by the Russians attack and caught a lucky break as Russia conceded an own goal on a dreadful mistake from the keeper but ultaintely they couldn’t hold on for a full three points and had to settle for one. Korea, Russia, and Belgium are all quite even and a mix of those three teams make up the balance of most people’s brackets but Algeria could play spoiler as they almost held on for a draw against the heavily favored Belgians. If Korea are to advance they would likely need the full three points here and to do so they’ll have to play a better game in the attacking third than they did against Russia and find a way to put a couple of goals on the board.

Algeria shocked some people with the way they played in their tournament opening loss to Belgium in what was expected to be a blowout by the European side but instead it was a late Belgian goal that was the difference in what could have been a much better fate for the Africans. Algeria are one of four African sides in this tournament but are considered by many to by the weakest of the lot but are also in perhaps the easiest group than their other three counterparts. Algeria played relatively well in the defensive zone against Belgium but their attack was very lackluster and a large reason why they didn’t salvage a draw and if they’re going to keep their World Cup dreams intact they’ll need a better offensive game here against South Korea. While both teams didn’t impress me much in their tournament opener I think that South Korea has a better chance at advancing and while their only goal of the tournament was an own goal they had ample opportunity to score more and I think they find a way to do that in this one.
