I have to admit that Australia surprised the hell out of me, they have put in two brilliant displays against Chile and Holland and definitely deserved more than the two losses they have to show for their efforts. The ageless Tim Cahill is still as dangerous as ever, notching two more world cup goals at the tender age of 34 is no mean feat and I wouldnt bet against him appearing in 2018 if the Socceroos make it. With Jedinak, Breschianno and the really exciting Matthew Leckie the Australians have layers capable of playing on the biggest stage but unfortunately they got drawn in a Group with three of the heavyweights of the competition and were just that small bit lacking defensively. Overall though I have to say I think Australians can be very proud of the performances put in by their side so far and they might just finish this tournament with a bang when they face a Spain team that are really struggling.

Spain came to Brazil as third favourites for the competition as reigning European and World Champions but they are on the early flights home as they just completely failed to perform in their opening two games losing comprehensively to both Holland and Chile. Vincent Del Bosque stuck with his tried and tested team and it was his undoing, Casillas has been awful, Xavi and Iniesta ineffective and Diego Costa pretty much anonymous. It will be interesting to see the line up for this game but I imagine the squad players should all get a run out and that might not be a bad thing for Spanish fans as they couldnt be any worse the first two games.

I like Australia here, I think at +2 here on the handicap its just too hard to look past the socceroos who have played well in every game in comparison to a Spanish side who have really underwhelmed the viewing public. I am on Australia to give their fans a great day out and maybe even nick this one. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
