South Korea look to spoil the party for Belgium in Group H action at the World Cup on Thursday as the group leaders look to wrap up first place.
The Korea Republic came into this tournament in a relatively favourable draw against Belgium, Algeria, and Russia but through two games they have but one point and were doubled by a 4-2 mark against Algeria in their last match. Korea are likely on their way out as they need a lot to happen today including a pretty substantial victory over the Belgians but it doesn’t look like they’re going to replicate the same success they had when playing on home soil. Korea fought back against Algeria and made a game of it but they conceded way too many to expect a victory and now they take on a Belgian team that has underachieved so far despite winning both contests. The victor of the Algeria-Russia game are likely to take the second spot in the group and this looks like the end of the line for Korea regardless of the outcome.

Belgium have been a country on the rise in world football over the last couple of years and have been slated as a dark horse by many pundits heading into the tournament. However, despite winning games against Russia and Algeria so far the Belgians have been disappointed in their own play as stated by a number of players and if they’re going to be taken seriously heading into the next round against either Ghana, Germany, or the United States they’ll need to step up their game. Belgium can put the ball in the net as we have seen so far in this tournament but they have done so in rather lackluster ways so far and they haven’t stolen any headlines and while that isn’t always a bad thing it can’t help their confidence and morale if they have publicly stated their distaste for their effort so far. Much like we saw from Colombia yesterday I think we see Belgium put together their most complete game of the tournament in their finale here and I expect them to earn a full three points comfortably.
