2014 FIFA World Cup: Chile vs. Brazil Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/28/14

Brazil (2-0-1) vs. Chile (2-1)

World Cup: Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 12:00 pm (Brazil)

The Line: Brazil -170 See the Latest Odds

Chile and Brazil will take the field Saturday afternoon for the first of many elimination games in the 2014 World Cup.

Chile is coming off a 2-0 loss to the Netherlands, but did pick up wins over Australia and Spain to advance to this stage. Chile plays with great pace and has shown that it is going to put defense first before anything. The problem in this match is the lack of attacking offensively, as Chile got just one shot on goal against the Netherlands and four shots on goal against Spain. If Chile is going to have any chance of pulling off the upset, it must give itself plenty of opportunities to put the ball in the net given how deadly Brazil can be offensively. Alexis Sanchez had a goal and an assist in the first match but has been quiet in his last two games. Look for Sanchez to have a big performance.

2014 FIFA World Cup: Chile vs. Brazil Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/28/14

Brazil dominated Cameroon and Croatia and settled for a draw against Mexico to cruise to this point in the tournament. Neymar has really set the tone in this tournament by scoring four goals in the first three games. He’s looked like the best player in the World Cup and is now getting compared to Pele at the young age of 22 years old. Brazil’s attack has been relentless throughout the first three matches, as it has scored seven goals in two games, and that doesn’t include eight quality shots on goal against Mexico. This team looks the part, is feeding off the crowd and seems to be making positive strides with each match.

Chile will have Arturo Vidal back for this match, but I’m not sure it’s enough. Brazil is poised to make a deep run and after its first three performances, there’s no reason to pick against them at this stage. Chile doesn’t have the firepower needed to win this game, and I can’t go against a red-hot Neymar and the home field advantage.

As long as the price is under -200, Brazil is the pick.
