Germany finished atop the group of death and has been rewarded with a round of 16 matchup with Algeria who many believe are the least quality team remaining in the tournament.
The Germans as they usually are were considered favourites to not only run the course in their group but are considered to be among a small handful of teams to be a candidate to win the whole tournament and that journey starts on Monday with a show down against Algeria. Germany emerged out of a very tough group that included Ghana, the United States, and Portugal and while they didn’t play their best against the former two sides they dominated the latter in their tournament opener and really set the stage for their World Cup bid. Germany has so much talent across the field and I don’t think we have yet to see their best as the likes of Thomas Muller, Lukas Podolski, Meszut Ozil, Miroslav Klose, and Bastien Scweinsteiger make up one of the best and deepest teams in the world. Germany will not take their opponents lightly and with a tune up game in their last group stage encounter giving way to some reserves I expect the Germans to be out in full force in this one.

Algeria is the second African nation to advance to the round of 16 joining Nigeria but I think of the two teams to possibly emerge (though I don’t expect either to) it is the green and white playing against France and not this Algerian side. Algeria would love to rectify some past wrongdoings as they were ousted in the group stage in 1984 thanks to a conspiracy between Austria and West Germany which has radically changed the World Cup rules and while that incident may not reflect either of their current squads you can bet some fans of either side still greatly remember what happened. The bottom line here is that Algeria is just badly outclassed here. They pulled through in a group containing Russia and South Korea but in this spot they’re against a world juggernaut that is on a mission and I don’t think it’ll even be close. I will side with the Germans getting two goals as I expect a 3-0 type final for the Germans as Algeria’s dream comes to an end.
