The Line: France -190 See the Latest Odds
Nigeria and France will take the field Monday afternoon for an elimination World Cup match in the round of 16.
Nigeria beat Bosnia-Herzegovina, lost to Argentina and settled for a draw against Iran to advance to the next round. Nigeria hasn’t been the most impressive team in the tournament, but it did give one of the favorites in Argentina all it could handle, proving that you shouldn’t sleep on this squad. Nigeria is a team that relies heavily on speed. It can go from defense to offense in a hurry and really put its opponent on its heels. Nigeria is led by a dangerous combo in Ahmed Musa and Peter Odemwingie, a duo that has scored all of Nigeria’s three goals in the tournament. Nigeria also has to like its chances with goalie Vincent Enyeama, who didn’t allow a goal in the tournament until he ran into Lionel Messi.

France beat Switzerland, Honduras and drew against Ecuador to make it this far in the World Cup. There’s a good chance France would have swept Group E if it didn’t decide to bench all of its key players for the final match. At full strength, France has outscored its opponents, 8-2, and has 26 shots on goal in those two matches. Karim Benzema has really led the way with three goals and two assists, but pretty much the entire midfield has brought its A-game for this tournament. It’s even scarier when you factor in one of France’s better players in Olivier Giroud hasn’t contributed much to the party yet.
There’s almost no value in taking France to win at odds of -190, so I’m going with the over. With the amount of shots France gets off and the way Nigeria can flip the field in a hurry, this should be an exciting game that features a goal or two.
Take the over.
