Two of the most storied European football nations clash in Brazil on Friday with a berth in the tournament’s semifinals on Friday afternoon.
German football has become synonymous with international success over the last decade or so as their return to dominance has been brilliant to watch and they have another shot at boosting their resume on Friday with a victory over France. Germany has played very well so far in this tournament and hold one of the top three most impressive victories of the tournament as they coasted past Portugal in their first contest by a 4-0 final. Germany has a ton of world class talent that comes together to play a very structured and effective style as the likes of Meszut Ozil, Thomas Muller, Bastien Schweinsteiger, and Lukas Podolski forming the core of a very dangerous team. However, Germany needed extra time to rid of a pesky Algerian side that was completely underrated heading into the tournament and now there are swirling rumors of a flu outbreak in the German quarters which could play a huge role in tomorrow’s outcome. Germany are still considered the favourites to win but the line could move depending on the health and availability of some of its players.

France has been one of the best teams in the tournament through the group stage and the round of 16 and while they needed two late markers to secure their spot in the quarterfinals they absolutely dominated Nigeria in the round of 16. Paul Pogba, who netted the game winner from his head in the 80th minute played his best match for his country and if he and Karim Benzema can continue to shine in the middle than the French have a great shot at pulling off the minor upset in this one. France has only conceded two goals in the entire tournament and they were against Switzerland in garbage time of a 5-2 rout and while this German side is unquestionably the best team France has played I think it is safe to say the same for the Germans. While I am slightly biased in this spot as a supporter for French football I think the value here lies on the team that is healthier and is playing with more confidence and whether the flu bug plays a role here for the Germans or not I like France to get the win and move on to the World Cup semifinals.
