The underdogs from Costa Rica look to continue their Cinderella run at the World Cup as they take on European powers from The Netherlands in the World Cup quarterfinals.
Costa Rica are undoubtedly the feel good story of the World Cup as the CONCACAF representatives have coasted through a group including England, Italy, and Uruguay and now after upending the Greeks in a shootout have a chance to play in a World Cup semi-final. Costa Rica has played very well throughout the course of the tournament as they started with back to back victories over Uruguay and Italy before drawing with the English as group winners they drew Greece who many considered the worst qualifying team of the knockout stage. Costa Rica looked a little suspect in their contest against Greece who are famously known for their defensive style of play but they held on to force penalties and as such came away with the country’s biggest football victory to date and they’ll be looking for more here against a very tough Dutch side.

The Dutch shocked the world on the second day of World Cup action by absolutely waxing the defending champions from Spain and after starting the tournament destined for disappointment the world powers are back in the conversation as tournament favourites. The Netherlands have world class talent but were almost ousted from the round of 16 by a very strong Mexican side that has to be feeling the lingering effects from a controversial loss that surrounded an embellishment in the box from Arjen Robben that drew a penalty shot and ultimately the game winner. The Dutch battled through adversity and now have a great shot at advancing to the World Cup semifinals with another win here which the oddsmakers think is a foregone conclusion already. While I am inclined to ride the momentum of Costa Rica here I think their run comes to an end especially with the frustration boiling over for Robin van Persie who is in the middle of benching rumors if he can’t get his game going despite scoring one of the goals of the tournament thus far. I like the Dutch to keep things going and they should get it done in 90 minutes.
