Argentina and Holland face off in the first of two European-South American show downs in the World Cup semifinals with the victor advancing to the Final on Saturday.
The Dutch held off a pesky Costa Rican team that had taken the whole world by storm with their play during the group stage but a bold move to switch goalkeepers heading into spot kicks proved to be the difference in a Dutch victory. The Netherlands has seen their momentum taper off since a tournament opening statement against Spain but they have still done more than enough to squeak into the semifinals and are just one victory away from advancing to their second straight World Cup final. Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben continue to be the talk of the Oranje but Wesley Sneijder has been the difference maker for the Dutch over the last two contests and he will have to be strong once again if they’re to advance to final and avoid settling for the third place fixture. The Dutch will definitely put up a good fight but this Argentine side is strong and will be playing their best contest with the tournament on the line.

Argentina to may were the pre-tournament favourites alongside Brazil to advance to the World Cup finals and many drew up a dream matchup pitting the bitter rivals against one another and a win here against the Netherlands will ensure the Albiceleste held up their end of the agreement. Argentina has had their struggles in this tournament but when it has mattered most they have stepped up their game and have played a pretty sound style defensively despite having a ton of offensive talent. I would love to see Brazil and Argentina square off in the third place match simply because I don’t want either to win and quite frankly I don’t see Brazil getting through the Germans but it is tough for me to lean on a Dutch side that has been running out of gas and in my eyes should have lost to Mexico in the Round of 16. The Dutch have been fading while Argentina has been getting better and I see that as the difference here as the South Americans get at least one side in the World Cup final.
