While Arsene Wenger has added wisely to his squad the past number of years he has ignored a major area in defence and i did point this out for the weekends draw with Everton. Arsenal will not win a tithe with this defence, Mertesacker is too slow and mistake prone and as good as koscielny is he can't play too positions on his own. Up front Arsenal are again looking like a cohesive unit, Aaron Ramsay is the key player for the Gunners and scored his second goal of the season at the weekend. Giroud, Sanchez, Cazorla all seem to play off the inventive Welshman and his goals were a key reason that Arsenal competed so well last season his injury pretty much destroyed their title hopes and wenger will be keen to avoid a repeat this season. Ramsay was sent off in the first leg of this tie and will miss the game on Wednesday a huge loss for Arsenal.Champions Leage football is vital to Arsenals progression though so expect a full strength ginners team to take the field against Besiktas on Wednesday night at the Emirates.
Besiktas held Arsenal to a great draw in the first leg and had a couple of chances to win the game. Overall Slaven Bilics side had just more possession and created more chances. Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba will pose the biggest threat up front for Arsenal and Ba will be a handful for the backfour. The question will be can Besiktas score at the Emirates? I think that they are at a disadvantage though with their season yet to start , the Turkish side have played two games in the qualifiers though beating Feynoord home and away. The home victory was the game that launched Ba's career in Turkey he started his first competitive fixture and netted a hat trick.
This will be a tricky fixture for Arsenal they are expected to come through it easily but Besiktas are a tough side and will be hard to break down. Tactically Wenger will have to be careful with Besiktas showing in the first leg that they can break with pace and have a finisher up front in Ba who has done it at the highest level. I am going to take the overs here as I think Arsenal are going to have to score a couple to get through and I think Ba can get on the scoresheet for the visitors. Follow me on twitter @antonpippo
