Los Galacticos as they are known have added even more star power to their line up this summer with the arrival of James Rodrigues and Toni Kroos but Ancelotti lost Angel Di Maria to Manchester United and there seems to have been a little unrest in the camp at that sale. Cristiano Ronaldo missed the last game with an undisclosed injury which is thought to be the remanents of the knee problem that plagued the end of last season and pretty much ruined his World Cup. Real without Ronaldo are a different animal to Real with him, he is that good and Real fans will be delighted to hear the reports that he is fully recovered and ready to go this weekend in an early season tester.
Athletico Madrid lost Diego Costa in the summer and replaced him with former Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukich who appears to have settled in just perfectly. Diego Simeone has done some good business in the transfer window bringing in Griezmann and Mandzukich and maybe even more importantly holding onto Tiago and Koke. This is a solid Athletico Madrid team, one built around hard work and playing for each other. There will be some revenge on their minds as the loss to REal in the Champions league final will still be fresh in the mind of alot of the Athletic players.
I am going to take the draw here, I think Athletico can upset the hosts by playing some tough football. Where Atheltico brings to mind blood sweat and tears, real often brings to mind lovely footballers with half hearted tackles. That doesnt equate to all the players but just a few of Real players come across that way and in a derby there is no room for that. Diego Simeone will be sure to have his team fired up as well and you can be certain that they leave everything on the pitch on Saturday evening at the Bernebeau. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
