The summer has been an interestign one for Aston Villa fans, no big signings but the addition of a coach in Roy Keane that appears to be a positive influence on the club and the players. A few Aston Villa players have been vocal about Keane's attitude and mental toughness coming across in training and his insights has really helped some of the squad. Paul Lambert's decision to add Keane to the backroom staff seems to have been an inspired decision right now. Agbonlahor, Weimann are on fire and the win against Liverpool last weekend was a great smash and grab performance. Once they got the goal though Villa never really looked under threat of conceding. Liverpool dominated possession but only managed two shots on target Senderos and Baker were excellant in the center and Westwood, Cleverly and Delph were excellent in the midfield. There is going to be a cracking atmosphere in Villa Park, its a long time since Aston Villa fans were this excited so expect a loud and noisy crowd shouting on their under dog team.
Arsenal travel from Germany to play this game on Saturday and while they did play Tuesday night it is going to be tough for them to get their heads right after a bad loss in Dortmund. Ramsay, Wilshire and Ozil will be the key to Arsenal's attacking play and Danny Wellbeck must start to take the chances that he is getting. Wellbeck gets himself into terrific positions but at this level that is not enough, you have to finish them and until he starts doing that there are always going to be questions over his ability. Arsene Wenger has spent most of this week defending Ozil but if Wellbeck doesnt start putting the ball in the net Wenger is going to spend alot of time defending the decision to spend €20million on a Manchester United off cast.
This promises to be a tense encounter on paper, I think Lambert and Villa will approach this cautiously similar to their game plan for the Liverpool game last week. I back Villa +2 last week on the handicap and at home getting a goal head start at better than evens well I think I will just have to take Villa again. Take Aston Villa +1 on the handicap, at worst I think we push. Follow me on twitter @antonpippo
