At the moment Chelsea have had a terrific start to the season, the first real test of the year was an away trip against Manchester City and Jose Mourhino's side while they passed it did so with less that flying colours. Diego Costa has been a revelation for the Blues and Chelsea's season may well be decided by the health of Costa's hamstrings. Jose Mourhino will give his striker as many rests as possible but is expected to ask him to lead the line in Portugal tomorrow after Chelsea failed to beat Shalke in round one. Cesc Fabregas has been immense since arriving from Barcelona and with Hazard, Willian and Fabregas together this looks like a midfield not only capable of dominating the Premier League but also putting the blues up as one of the favourites for the Champions League, they will need to prove it tomorrow in a hostile Lisbon.
Sporting Lisbon finished as runner up in Portugal last season and have not rested on their laurels while losing Rojo to Manchester United, they received Nani on loan in the deal and one that will probably become permanent at the end of the season. While Nani can be infuriating there is no doubting the player has tremendous talent and can score spectacular goals, Nani will also have no fear coming up against a Chelsea team he faced many many times with Manchester United. There is more than just Nani in this Lisbon team though with the highly rated William and Carillio, this is a team that could cause a shock and it wouldnt surprise me if they raised their game significantly against Chelsea and Mourhino.
Another game that is tough to handicap, while I think that Chelsea have the quality to win here I dont trust Jose Mourhino to actually go out to Portugal and try to win. Quite often Mourhino sets his teams up to not be beaten especially away from home in Europe and therefore i cant take the 8/11 about the blues. I'm not crazy on the overs here either but I am going to take the draw at halftime, I think Sporting may be cautious themselves and I see this one becoming a tactical battle.
