One of the surprises of the World Cup was how good France were and how poor Portugal were. France were led by Karim Benzema and Paul Pogba who will be the backbone of France's international side for a long time to come. There is a good spread of talent in this French squad and they appear well balanced and well coached. Dider Deschamps got a rough time for leaving Nasri out of the World Cup squad especially when Frank Ribery got injured but France played well and were only beaten 1-0 by the eventual Champions Germany in the Quarter Final.
While France out performed expectations Portugal fell flat on their face, their star man Cristiano Ronaldo was obviously playing hurt and he just couldnt influence games the way he normally does. The Real Madrid man is back to his best at the moment with a goal a game thus far this season and looking like his intimidating self when on the field. Ronaldo missed Portugal's Eup qualifier against Albania and Portugal lost the game. There are leadership problems with this squad and Ronaldo missing was too much for them to overcome with Mouthino, Ronaldo, Nani and Quaersma there is plenty of individual talent but the question remains can they play as a team and work together?
I think the bookmakers have the pricing right here, France are understandably favourites but at the same time any team with Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks can not be underestimated. I am liking the odds on both teams to score and thats what I am taking here. Its rare that I make a bet on friendly internationals but I will be taking this one on myself as I think both offences have something to prove here and there is the added spice of Ronaldo and Benzema being team mates at Real Madrid look for both to try to get on the scoresheet in what should be an entertaining friendly.
