Poland got their European Championship qualifiers off to a flyer with a 7-0 win over Group minnows Gibraltor, Robert Lewandowksi netted four in that game and will look to continue his impressive goalscoring stats for Poland. There is no doubt this is going to be a tough test for Poland but at home in Poland I am sure they will fancy their chances of giving Germany a tough game especially given Scotlands success in frustrating the World Champions and actually creating a few chances themselves. With Blaszcykowski, Lewandowski and Milik Poland have players than can hurt Germany on the counter attack.
The World Champions got their European campaign off to a rocky start when they really struggled to beat Scotland in Dortmund. The Germans won 2-1 with Thomas Muller netting both goals but they struggled to impose themselves for long periods and gave up chances to a mediocre Scottish team who would not be as good as Poland. This is still the core group of players that won the world cup anchored by Hummels, Nuer and Boateng and led in the middle third by Kroos, Ozil and Goetze. Muller will be the key man again in attack and we have to think that its only a matter of time before Germany click into gear in these qualifiers.
Tough one this, I think that while Germany are far the better side on paper they were not impressive in their opening encounter with Scotland and I think Poland could cause thems some problems tomorrow. I expect the Polish to be defensively sound and tough to break down and I am going to take Poland +1 on the handicap. The only reason I am not taking the draw outright is that I think Poland may just have enough to nick a famous win here. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
